Unfinished business

Last week end I have finished the white druzy pendant. I have chosen white fresh water pearl and yellow swarovski for the frame and was quite satisfied with the result. But I still thought that the pendant looked not quite done. It needed a necklace that enhanced the stone and to complete the look.

I was thinking of something delicate with small stones, not to out-shine the pendant.

Point of no return

As in today, I declare that I am addicted to wire jewelry especially with Eni Oken's tutorial. I have purchased several of her tutorials and each of them are very special. It makes your imagination wild with lots of ideas. Personally, I think she is a genius !

Thanks to her tutorial, I can never go back to making a 'simple' jewelry making ever again.

Some of my 'old' clients were dissapointed when I refused to make a 'simple' jewelry. But when they saw my 'new' jewelry they love it. ".... so this is your new style, it's still simple but it's exquisite... rich with detail.." they said. I am so glad they like the 'new' me....

Like this druzy stone, before I knew net bezel technique I would have made it with a 'simple' wire wrap technique. Nothing wrong with that, of course. But I felt with her technique, not only it's rich with details but it enhance the stone itself. Do you agree with me?

Golden Topaz still continued .... ( again )

For this set of jewelry, I use a swarovski ruby flat briolet 15.4x14 mm for the pendant and a pair of faceted teardrop pendant 15x10 mm also in ruby color for the earrings. And they are wrapped with silver non tarnish artistic wire 22 ga and 28 ga.

Golden Topaz still continued ....

Base on the golden topaz, I tried to make another set with different color of swarovski crystal.

For the pendant I use a green olivine faceted teardrop pendant 24x12 mm and 20x10 mm for earrings. Both pendant and earring are wrap with gold artistic wire non tarnish 22 ga and 26 ga.

Tree of Life

There are lots of free tutorial out there. One of them is from http://beadstudio.com/ called "Tree of life" pendant. Yesterday I tried to do several of my version of that pendant with 20G, 26G artistic wire, gemstone chips and acrylic flower beads.

My favorit is the one with red gemstone chips, what about you ?

History of wire wrapping jewelry

Mungkin belum banyak orang Indonesia yang tahu mengenai wire wrapping jewelry. Aku juga ketemu wire wrapping secara tidak sengaja waktu browsing trus tertarik and jadi mau tahu lebih banyak dan akhirnya 'ketagihan'.



Menurut wikipedia, wire wrapping adalah salah satu tehnik pembuatan perhiasan yang tertua yaitu dengan menggunakan batu2an dan kawat, tanpa di patri atau dipanaskan.


Seni 'lilit kawat' ini sudah dikenal sejak jaman dahulu kala. Biasanya kawat di lilit melingkari batu2an hingga membentuk decorative shape yang menarik, itulah sebabnya seni ini dinamakan wire wrapping atau 'lilit kawat'.


Peralatan dasar yang digunakan cukup sederhana yaitu beberapa macan tang seperti tang flush cutter untuk memotong kawat, tang round nose plier yaitu yang kedua ujungnya melingkar untuk membuat lingkaran (loop) dan tang chain nose plier yaitu yang kedua ujungnya rata untuk memegang atau membengkokkan kawat. Selain itu jika sudah mahir dapat ditambahkan dengan yang lainnya.



Untuk kawat yang digunakan, aku biasanya menggunakan artistic wire dengan ukuran ketebalan yang berlainan sesuai dengan kebutuhan. Bisa juga memakai kawat perak atau emas yang harganya tentu saja lebih mahal.

Contoh diatas adalah salah satu karya pertamaku yang menggunakan kombinasi antara batu alam/natural stone (aku ngga tau namanya) dan kristal swarovski.

Mudah2an tulisan ini bisa menambah pengetahuan teman2 sekalian, kalau akhirnya bisa tertarik dan 'ketagihan' seperti aku malah lebih baik lagi ;)
